Kenneth Kassem
Marine Coordinator for Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion & Peninsular Malaysia Seas programmes
Coordinates WWF-Malaysia’s marine projects, provides technical support and develops strategies for future successes. Ken has worked for WWF-Malaysia since 2004.

 


Peninsular Malaysia Seas

Kevin Hiew
Peninsular Malaysia Seas Manager
Manages and oversees the two main projects under the Peninsular Malaysia Seas (PMS) Programme - Conservation and Protection of sea turtles (Green and Hawksbill) and Ecosystem-based Management for Fisheries Resources Management and Aquaculture. He joined WWF-Malaysia in March 2001 as National Conservation Director and since then has handled various projects, of which PMS is the latest.

Chitra Devi
Ecosystem-based Management Officer
Responsible to conduct research on the status of Malaysian fisheries and assist the Manager in developing a framework for the Ecosystem-based Management project. She joined WWF-Malaysia in May 2006 as the Langkawi Project Officer.

 


Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME)

Dr. Annadel Cabanban
Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Manager
Dr. Annadel manages all of WWF-Malaysia’s marine conservation projects in Sabah. She has extensive knowledge of the area, having worked in the research of coral reef fish ecology and fisheries in Sabah over the last 10 years. She also serves as Regional Vice Chair on the IUCN-The World Conservation Union Commission on Ecosystem Management, as a Member of the IUCN-Survival of the Species Group, and as a Council Member of the International Society for Reef Studies.

 

Kudat Priority Conservation Area
Robecca Jumin
Team Leader
Manages and coordinates the team working on the Tun Mustapha Park Project, which aims at gaining support of the local community on the establishment of the proposed Tun Mustapha Park. Robecca started working with WWF-Malaysia in 2001, and has firsthand knowledge of the SSME Programme having been with the programme since its inception.  

Irwanshah bin Mustapa
Marine Biologist
Responsible in building community support towards the gazetting of the proposed Tun Mustapha Park within Kudat Priority Conservation Area, by providing expertise on the ecology of mangrove forests and marine ecosystems, and conducting research for the development of sustainable alternative livelihoods. Also involved in designing, planning and producing awareness and educational materials, and organising community consultations.
 
Sofia Johari
Community Education and Public Awareness Officer
Networks and communicates with local community members and leaders, and local stakeholders, to raise awareness and engage them in participating in activities supporting the establishment of the proposed Tun Mustapha Park.

Suzianah binti Ramlee
Community Education and Public Awareness Assistant Officer
Suzianah is responsible in disseminating information and conducting education and public awareness campaigns. She works closely with Banggi Youth Club members to organise programmes, to build the capacity of these youths. She is a sociologist by training, hailing from Banggi Island within the Kudat district.

Damsek Hassan
Boatman
Intimately familiar with the marine environments of Tun Mustapha Park. He is a native of Banggi Island and has worked as a fisherman, seaweed farmer and treasure hunter.
 

Semporna Priority Conservation Area
Daniel Doughty
Team Leader
Coordinates the team in implementing strategies to effectively manage the coral reefs off Semporna through close collaboration with stakeholders including local fishermen, government agencies and dive operators. With a background in marketing and management, his core strength lies in understanding and adapting to changing environments.

Nina Ho
Marine Biologist
Conducts assessments of coral reefs in the Semporna district and undertakes activities to understand the Live Reef Fish Trade of coral reef fishes. Nina is a Marine Biologist with experience working as a dive master with one of the dive operators on Mabul Island. She brings with her first-hand knowledge of tourism impacts on coral reefs.

Myezana binti Ismat
Programme Trainee, Community Awareness & Education
Myezana joins the team armed with a degree in Conservation Biology. As a resident of Semporna, her knowledge of the local culture and people allows her to integrate effectively with the local community. She is responsible in obtaining socio-economic and resource use information, and in engaging communities in conservation activities.

Mohd. Harris

Boatman
Drives and maintains the catamaran, Kahumbu (Bajau language for whale). Harris is a Bajau from Semporna. He has worked as a boatman with dive operators on Sipadan and Mabul Islands, and knows the islands and reefs like the back of his hand.
 

Support Team
Marina Aman Sham
Communications Officer, Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Programme
Supports the SSME marine team by communicating conservation messages to target audiences through appropriate communication channels.
